The road network in Thailand is excellent with major motorways and roadways covering all points of the compass. Driving is on the left side of the road as in the UK, Malaysia and Singapore. Unless you are a highly experienced driver we do not recommend car hire unless it’s with a driver included. Some car Hire companies do offer this service for a reasonable extra cost. You can also hire a passenger van which will be ideal for a family with a fair amount of luggage. You may use your national driving licence when picking up the car and it’s recommended that you book on line from your home country There are several major car hire companies who have branches in Bangkok and most airports. It should be noted that Thailand has the second highest road traffic fatality rate in the world with an annual estimate of over 24,000 deaths. A serious accident could mean hospitalisation with life-threatening injuries or worse still fatalities. If you are driving and are involved in an accident with no injury to yourself, but to the third party or their vehicle, you may have difficulties dealing with the problem and it can be very time consuming and costly. We suggest you use a reputable hire company and check exactly what the car hire company covers in their insurance cover. The hire company will give you an emergency number to contact in case of any trouble. Needless to say, a good holiday insurance policy which covers personal injury, injury to third party and hospital cover is highly recommended - just in case! There are quite a few places where you can hire small and also powerful ‘Big Bikes’. We suggest that you think carefully before when hiring one of these bikes. Check the terms carefully and what the insurance conditions state. As with car hire, if you are not an experienced rider, it’s better that you don’t take the risk and travel around by taxi or bus. There are many holiday makers who have been unlucky sometimes because of inexperience and have had accident which ends up as a disaster. There are many riders who tend to think that because they are away from home and on holiday, there’s no need to wear a safety helmet or protective clothing. If you’re having several beers, then leave the bike, take a taxi and enjoy yourself without the risk of injuring yourself or another person. Please bear in mind, that not wearing a helmet and sustaining injury requiring hospitalization, may result in your insurance refusing to pay due to the fact that you are considered culpable of ‘contributory negligence’. Before hiring, think seriously and consider that an unexpected accident on a motorcycle may end up not only ruining your holiday, but your life or that of some other innocent individual. If you do decide to hire……….. PLEASE DRIVE CAREFULLY.
