The State Railway of Thailand Offers passenger services from Hua Lumpon and Bang Seu Stations to main Cities in Thailand. with three classes of ticket, first, second and third. There are some air conditioned carriages and although there are “Express” services offered they are mostly with a transit time slower than tour bus or car, but statistically safer. It is however a way of seeing a lot of countryside in relative comfort. A price example is one way ticket Bangkok Chiang Mai in air conditioned carraige including a meal (don’t know what that includes) - Adult 641 Baht, Child 501 Baht. The tRANSIT TIME IS 11 HOURS. ThERE ARE SOME private sleeping rooms for two persons sharing available in first class. The transit time Bangkok - Chiang Mai is 13 hours.
